America came along in the late 60s. I first heard them on the radio. I thought they were the ......Eagles! Both bands had 1972 hits. The band who became the Eagles were backing Linda Ronstadt. With her encouragement the Eagles were formed. Their first hit was “Take it Easy”. America called themselves “AMERICA”, as they were all Air Force Brats living in England.
”A Horse with No Name” would be added to their 1st album in 1972. I cannot remember which song was first to become a hit, but I liked them both. Then they later sang “Ventura Highway''.
About that time our former governor in Minnesota was a “Mongol”- a 1% MC Club. James George Janos adopted Ventura as his wrestling moniker.
Anyhoo... America original Dan Peeks either did too many drugs, or found out he wasn't an Eagle, and became a born-again Christian and as we now know that was the end of the band America! Well, he died the other day of unknown causes at the age of 60, which reminds me of a Ole and Leena joke (Ole and Leena are your typical
“Scandahoovian” Minnesota Swedes or Norwegian!
Anyhoo...:Ole died. Leena called the local newspaper and said she wanted Ole's obituary printed.
”Sorry for your loss Leena- what would you like us to say about Ole?”
“Here goes,” said Leena, “Ole died! Funeral Saturday.”
“Leena,” the editor said, “you can have up to 15 words for $5.00.”
“Ok,” said Leena, “For Sale: fishing boat, with trailer, trolling motor, $50.00.”
Adios! I AM DONE WRITING. PACKING MY STUFF TO MOVE BACK TO THE WOODS WHERE I WILL BE A BORN AGAIN PAGAN.Rat...
