Twelve inches.... of snow. Minnesota is back. I don't go out after the first snow. The riff-raff that showed up over the summer will be playing bumper tag with each other. Then there are the damn fools who forget that ice and snow are slippery.
Anyhoo, it's Sunday. The Pacman won. I have a special place for the Philippines. My uncle was an Alamo Scout. They helped liberate 500 allied POWs from the Japanese POW camp at Cabanatuan. The Filipino natives assured their success in this endeavor. I trained there in 1964 and did alot of partyin'. Ol' San Miguel was some of the best beer I ever drank.
Anyhoo, Saturday was Christopher's (shlepcar) birthday. His name was my second choice. November 10th is the Marine Corps birthday. That was the day Chris was supposed to be born. A hero of mine is Marine SMEDLEY DARLINGTON BUTLER. He had two Medals of Honor- the highest of all military awards. I also like his attitude about the wars that were going on at the time that are kinda like now.
He wrote that he was “Wall Street's Gangster” and he titled a book he wrote as War is a Racket! He once said Al Capone runs Cook County, I run a couple continents.
Chris waited until the 13th to be born. Years later I told him my first choice for his name was Smedley Butler Earley. He looked at me as if I were “Dinky Dau”(crazy). Damn Dad!
Anyhoo the Vikings season is over. “Chilli” will probably be leaving. He shoulda been following Randy Moss out of Minnesnowda. Happy Birthday Chris!
