The Lovin' Spoonful - 1966 - Summer in the City [originally posted on 10/10/2011]

Man, it's phukin hot! Vietnam had two kinds of weather: Hot and steamy or monsoon. I hated it.

I had moved back to Minnesota because I liked the weather. The joke in Minnesota is the seasons are winter and highway construction. They have now put up electronic signs telling you how long it will take you to drive from A-Z. Yeah, an electronic board over the freeway flashes the minutes.

Anyhoo, speaking of hot, the last few summers in Minnesota we have had more 90 degree days than I care for. I am looking forward to our colder and snowier than usual coming winter. These badass winters have kept the Riff-Raff out!

Back in '66, The Lovin' Spoonful had a number one hit called “Summer in the City”. We listened to this and surfin' music along about March, with 18” OF FRESH SNOW, TEMP WILL BE 35 BELOW TONIGHT, WITH A WINDCHILL OF 45 AND THEY HAVE JUST ANNOUNCED A SNOW EMERGENCY. If you have a car it will be towed away!...
