Toby Keith - 2005 - As Good As I Once Was [originally posted on 8/16/2010]

If I had stayed in high school, I would have graduated in June of 1965. But I went into the Marines in 1963 and had already been to Vietnam by that time.

Anyhoo, my oldest son Chris is coming to see me and is going to take me to Delano, Minnesota, to my 45th class reunion, to see a bunch of old farts who more than likely will be wearing stick on name tags. There will be a lot of “DO YOU REMEMBER?” When Mr.Traen (biology teacher now deceased) did this or that.

And speaking of the deceased, most of my good friends: Two were killed in Nam, 3 died since- motorcycle accident, heart attack and cancer. My other three friends- who live in Alaska, Montana or Northern Minnesota-are not coming. The average age will be 63, with the early onset of Alzheimers, and I really don't give a shit how many bipasses you had. Or your Grandkids. I didn't like you back then, and that blow job you offered the nite before your wedding wouldn't have made a difference. I'm glad you're no longer married to my friend. I figuredhe knew you were a slut- it was why he married you...

Anyhoo, Chris (shlepcar) picked me up and we drove west to Delano USA. I introduced Chris. My twin Cordy showed up with Bob. We drank, ate, drank, and listened to a lot of stories I had forgotten! Remember when Ray stole that keg of beer off the truck, brought it down to the river...we had to smash the bung out with a rock, we were all wet from beer, stunk real bad in school that afternoon.

I'm glad someone bought the name tags. Most of the “OL HOTTIES” hadn't aged well- sadly, the best lookin' was my twin sister Cordie. Later the MC introduced Chris and asked for a round of applause thanking him for bringing his Dad, Ray Earley!

Thanks Chris, I had a real good day!...
