James McMurtry - 2005 - We Can't Make It Here [originally posted on 10/25/2010]

TV, the great American propaganda machine, has this new biker show called Sons of Anarchy. Actually, it's a show about a “bike club”. Like a lot of the Vietnam films I've seen, the only thing they got right is the motorcycles. They ride Harleys, maybe an Indian thrown in. The costume “colors” they wear are out of the sixties.

Back then patch holders wore Forever patches, FTW, I3, and Wings. Clubs today wear a backpatch, maybe a Nomad patch, that's about it. Anyhoo, I noticed one of the stills showed a 'flic' of three wings, all identical, except for the color. Depicted were wings that were White, Brown and Red. I laughed when I saw them. 99% of you 3 or 4 who read this drivel have no idea, nor probably give a shit what they represent, but I'm gonna tell you anyhoo.

This was pre-AIDS days. Some of the clubs had a ritual that to earn these wings, it was required that the prospect go down on a woman. You know what white is, red is that she was on the”rag”, and the brown wings were earned by what Andrew Dice Clay used in his gig. Old Rectum Breath was the only comic I've heard who talks of the “backdoor”.

The prospects mostly were drunk, which was their saving grace! Anyhoo, there was also a term of derision to describe “tight ass”, selfish, for-themselves types. It was “Whitewinger”.  It fits Republicans perfectly.

I know that them sex ed classes didn't teach you this shit. Only from ol' Rat!

One other thing: next Tuesday these “WHITEWINGERS” are gonna try and take over. They want to deny me Social Security and my VA pension, which I earned fighting their PHUCKIN War. They're done with me and other Veterans. This 2% OF THE POPULATION WANT IT ALL! DON'T LET THEM HAVE IT! VOTE them Out!!! We own them! Our money rescued them! Their CEOs should be in prison!!!Reply Reply to all Forward
