After having his picture in the Sunday paper it was determined Walt was a bigamist. The creditors descended on the shop like vultures. Unbeknownst to the rest of us, Walt had sold off the receivables, that's what Re-ink was owed. Nada, Nothing, done!
Seems Walt was marrying women for their money. He had wives in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Fuck, being a millionaire woulda been such a hassle. Walt was put in jail for a few weeks, and that was it. He had told me he had been a 3rd Recon Marine. He never could pull it off, he wasn't “Swift-Silent or Deadly”. I found out he was a cook for 3rd Recon. “Death from Within” was a t-shirt I found for him.
My son Chris had stayed with us for a few months. He found a job, and he and his Bud moved into a place off Snelling Avenue. “Party-time”I called it. Glad he moved, cause the shit was coming down! Wife numbah 3 had a boy nine months after my annual trip to Moose Lake Treatment.
I finally figured it out. I quit using alcohol, no more TX, no more kids! DUH! Quit Smoking cigarettes, though I continued to “chew” Copenhagen. My wife's Mother Charlotte who had lived with us would die after heart surgery. My son Zac would find us when he read her obituary and we would bring him home from a group home, that's another story.
At the time Charlotte died I didn't realize that there went the “Heart and Soul” of the Day Family. She had lived her life as a traditional Ojibway Equay raising 17 kids by herself. When I bought the house I had a new furnace and central air installed. The VA had backed my loan on the house. It needed a lot of work but the “MN Housing” was coming to the rescue. They were fixing up neighborhoods one by one, ours was next. Within a year they would be there with the money to fix up your house, the only stipulation was, you gotta buy it, live in it, and stay in it for at least 3 years after it's done or else you will have to pay the loan back.
Hell, I can do that. We put the house up for rent and moved. We never got a dime from our renters, so the VA said we will take it back. Today I only have a house payment! Stay out of the casinos. I was over $4000 in arrears. Wife would have to work, she needed a car, I put the 57 Bel air up for sale! I pulled the motor and tranny, sold and traded away that beautiful body. The economy was in the tank, but I finally got an offer of an 86 Monte Carlo and $2000. I took it. I was still short $2000. I put the Shovel-head up.I have owned motorcycles since I was 16 years old. My 1975 was built from the knowledge I had gained over the years of trial and error. I started with the motor. I farmed it out to a professional motor builder. He backed his motors for a lifetime. I went to him and asked how he would build it. He used S+S (the best) flywheels, rods and pistons; the motor was now 86 cubic inches, a little stroker. This made the motor stronger. Cubic inch means Torque! After balancing and blueprinting, he ported and polished the heads (better air-gas flow). A cam was dialed in along with S+S carb. I did the tranny, all Andrews close ratio gears. A belt drive, put it in Harley's first swing arm frame, a 1958 Duo-Glide, it sat as lowas a rigid frame 3-1/2 Gallon “Fat Bob” tanks. A pair of wide glide front Forks with offset front brake on a 21” front wheel.
My Bud John Kosmoski (House of Color) painted it “wet black”. Cartoonist artist and Pin Striper (Dave Bell) pin-striped orange flames on it! That bike was a perfect runner! I got $4000 for it. Paid up the back payments on the house. They made it look like I never owned it after giving them the deed!
At 64, I bought a new house. It's a good time to buy one! I was at a funeral last week,my former daughter-in-law, a Japanese Naison, was there. I predicted Japan would be in line for the next quake. I based it on Christchurch NZ. Alaska is next! ”Ring of Fire” Rat aTat-Tat!!!...
